Using clay pebbles between the pot and the decorative planter

Why use this method?

Placing clay pebbles between the plant pot and the decorative planter (cache-pot) can be an excellent solution for several reasons:

• Stability: It helps center the pot inside the planter and stabilizes it, especially if the plant is tall and the inner pot is light.
• Drainage: It creates a reservoir for excess water to drain out of the pot and collect at the bottom of the planter without being in direct contact with the roots, thus reducing the risk of root rot.
• Aesthetics: The pebbles can also be used to slightly elevate the pot, making the plant more visible and highlighting its beauty.

How to proceed?

1. Measure the space: Check the gap between the plant pot and the walls of the decorative planter to estimate the amount of clay pebbles needed.
2. Prepare the pebbles: Rinse the clay pebbles to remove any dust and debris. This prevents clogging the pores of the pebbles and allows for better water absorption.
3. Place the pebbles: Spread an even layer of pebbles at the bottom of the planter before placing the pot. If necessary, you can also add pebbles around the pot, between it and the planter walls, for better stabilization.
4. Position the pot: Place the plant pot in the center of the decorative planter. Adjust the amount of clay pebbles if necessary to ensure the pot is stable and centered.
5. Check the drainage: Water your plant and make sure the water can drain correctly into the space created by the pebbles without rising back up to the roots.

Additional Tips

Moisture monitoring: Regularly check the moisture levels of the clay pebbles at the bottom of the planter, especially if your plant requires a dry environment.

Cleaning: Change or clean the clay pebbles from time to time to avoid the buildup of salt or minerals from tap water, which could be harmful to the plant in the long run.
